Empowering Communities through Participatory Budgeting

Thematic Area: Democracy and Good Governance

Overview

GAT empowered community members by training them on participatory budgeting processes and organising them into two groups; Community Budgeting Councils (CBCs) and Budgeting Monitoring and Evaluation Team (BMET). The CBCs are made up of community members (on the demand side) and local government officials (on the supply side). The BMETs are solely made up of community members.
The CBCs role are to plan budgets and help in mobilising resources for community development while the BMETs roles are to conduct needs assessment and track budget implementation.
GAT encouraged inclusion by providing special slots in both groups for women and people living with disability.
