SBMCs: Provision of Capacity Building, Monitoring & Supportive Supervision of SBMCs

Overview

Consequent to the creation, training and support of SBMCs in 37 schools of 4 districts of Jaba & Zangon Kataf LGAs of the 2010/11 450 school Roll out, ESSPIN agreed a 2-year extension to continue work with both states and UBEC to consolidate on SBMC development. ESSPIN supported SUBEB and GAT (one of the 12 CSOs partnering on this project) to review the progress of SBMC development 2014-14, conduct a gap analysis and identify what would need to be sustainable beyond ESSPIN beyond state rool out of SBMCs. This programme has 4 main outputs which inclue:

  1. To strengthen the governance framework at the Federal level in order to create an enabling enviroment for better basic education;
  2. To strengthen governance and management of Education at the State level;
  3. To improve the education service delivery in primary and junior secondary schools; and
  4. increase the capacity for communities and civil society to articulate demand for better education.
This programme is hoped to bring about relevant change in Education policy and practice through evidence-based CSO advocacy on issues of access, equity & equality as identified by communities/SBMCs; develop capacity of SBMCs and their traditional institutions to actively network & advocate with government on issues of community demand on continued and emerging education challenges; strengthen SBMCs and Women's & Children's participation in SBMCs and voice on education and issues of school improvement affecting them; consolidate and continue to strengthen the partnership between Civil Society and Government to work to work towards school improvement and education for all children and develop the capacity of relevant actors & agencies to work together to ensure that schools are safe spaces, free of violence, for children's acess and learning.
