Our Projects are based on our Thematic areas with includes

GAT was founded at a very critical period of which Nigeria transitioned from long years of military dictatorship to civil and democratic governance. GAT has observed, participated and contributed to democratic processes that have witnessed several elections taking place. Civic education, capacity building for female politicians and advocacy for peaceful, free and fair elections that allow women to fully and effectively participate have been the focus of GAT activities.

Gender is a cross-cutting theme that runs through all the thematic areas of GAT activities. Although equal in the sight of the law, males and females differ biologically hence having different needs. Over time, several assumptions have exaggerated differences and led to stereotypes that have limited women from exercising their fundamental, civic, political, economic, social and cultural rights. Fortunately, women’s human rights standards keep evolving over time with society’s tolerance depending on other factors mentioned above. GAT is working on legislative advocacy, legal reforms, domestication of International Instruments and standards to enforce the human rights; especially that of women and children. GAT interventions are 2-pronged: Improving the environment via sensitization and training programmes to change discriminatory laws, policies, beliefs, attitudes and behavior while engaging women in capacity building and empowerment programmes to fully utilize entry points and meet challenges as they come. GAT also recognizes men as allies without which change would be near impossible.

GAT builds the capacity of individuals and groups on Health and Reproductive Rights, creating awareness of the diseases, its prevention and eradication. By reaching out to vulnerable groups, GAT seeks to increase the knowledge of Health and Reproductive Right issues for change: Beliefs, attitudes, behavior. Prevention of the spread of the disease, demand for adequate health care services and advocacy are at the core of some GAT interventions.

GAT’s Peace & Human Security programmes started off as Conflict resolution interventions in response to ethno-religious crises. Over time, Peace Building, preventive/Early Warning and inclusion activities have emerged to further entrench and sustain peace. GAT advocates for, Sensitizes, Trains and produces resource materials for relevant stakeholders.
